The White Clay Creek was a winter wonderland this afternoon...actually it was just plain cold, and the fish were not very cooperative either.  Saw a nice bunch of fish but was only able to catch one, on a beaver nymph fished right on the bottom.  I used a 6 wt rod today and I was under matched to the wind.  Maybe I will see you on Sat opening day on the Ocotoro Creek at the WCFF first outing.

Plenty of fish were showing today and the streamer fished with a down and across presentation was the ticket.  Sz 12 edson tiger dark was the streamer of choice, although a few fish were landed on a gray ghost sz 10.

You only have days like this very rarely as the White Clay Creek, a Delaware River in PA gave up all its secrets today.  The fish were very hungary and tasted every fly that was presented.  Too bad I didn't have a nooby with me today as it would have been a great outing for a begining fisher.

The water on the White Clay Creek is still running cold at 40 degrees but the fish were feeding on midges today.  Both a sz 20 zebra midge an a white clay creek midge size 18 were attractive to the browns today.

Will Milliken will be presenting his talk on entamology in the WCC tonight at the London Tract Meeting House at the junction of London Tract and SouthMill Rds at 7:00 pm....thats tonight.  Will is very knowledgeable and his presentation is choked full of good info about the bugs and flies that imitate them.  Open to the public.  You should think about joining the White Clay Fly Fishers if you come out, and take advantage of all the opportunities to meet some nice people who are members and plan to fish outings planned for this spring.

The nice weather early in the season seems to find extra fishers on the stream and by the looks of the London tract parking lot too many cars meant I would have to find another spot to fish today.  I tried the Sharpless Rd location but it too had fishers and dogs on the creek.

Maybe tomorrow will provide a better opportunity.  I hope the fishing was great for those out today.  I would love to hear about some other success. flies, or good info..

Spent part of the morning loading and unloading library materials and got a chance to fish mid day.  The edges were slippery from the snow melt and after the last outing I was extra careful getting in and out of the White Clay Creek, a Delaware River in PA south of Good Hope Rd.  I fished the rock pile half way to London Tract Road and had a pretty good day drifting eggs and midges under a dry fly.  The fish were stacked up and feeding on something smaller than my capture netting.  The water was 41 degrees and the fish caught were very healthy and brightly colored.

The fishing was good today.  I had four fish in the first 20 minutes fishing under the Good Hope Rd bridge and the pool below.  I continued to fish down to the big rock and landed at least three more fish before I took a header, got rather wet and walked back to the car, pretty embarrased. Granted no one was there to see me, but i was not happy with my performance.  I am the guy who always preaches being careful and using precaution, and today I was careless.

Yup, the blog continues to be hacked.  I guess the hacker is a crappy fisher and is taking it out here.  Be that as it may,I continue to work to keep it current.   The White Clay Creek in PA is scheduled to be stocked by the state on Feb 20.  If  you want to help be at the Good Hope Road bridge at 2:30.  Help is always appreciated.  Todays snow will hamper my fishing for the next few days as the parking pull outs may be hard to find at the regulars spots. I plan to take a walk to the Big Elk tomorrow and see how that section of the creek is handling this dusting we had today.  I hope you will visit my new site www.vintagerod.com.  It is the site for the newly established business that I openned on Jan 21st this year.  Custom rods and rod rep ... I walked the creek today just looking for fish.  I am scheduled for a medical procedure in the next few days and I was trying to get the kinks out before I go under for some needed juice injections.  The ice really comes back fast aftr these cold night and the fish use those edges hiding just under the icy growth.  with the lack of pressure on the fish this winter fishing should be spectacular this spring.

Fished the White Clay Creek, a Delaware River in PA today.  Ice was almost all gone in the creek and on the rocks.  It is aufully difficult to find a safe edge to wade into as the snow hides it.  The fish were podded up at the rock point half way to dwon from geed hope rod.  I saw a few new footprints so I know that some other fishers are taking the opportunity to fish the creek this winter.  Good luck....I caught one nice rainbow and a bracwe of browns all on a zebra midge sz 20 below a caddis dry.

I am just back from a family vacation in St. Kitts where I was able to fish only one day due to the 20 knot daily winds during the week.  With my shrimp pattern I was able to catch a few grey snappers and a few unidentified fish!  Todays weather is already closing in so my plan to fish the White Clay Creek has been postponed.  I will check on stream conditions in the next few days and report what I find.

I walked the WCC this afternoon just before dark to see how the cold temps changed the stream conditions.  The creek had anchor ice formed on the edges as well as the rocky formations. Some of the slower runs were ice covered.  I did see some fish in a few of the deeper holes.  I managed to last about an hour before my face was feeling the effects of the wind and cold.  This was the coldest day I have ever spent on the stream.

Fished below Good Hope Rd today trying to get another fishing day in before the snowy weather that is being reported.  The cold just penetrates your waders and I was only out there for a few hours before I got uncomfortably chilled through.  Air was 32 but the wind made it feel much colder.  Drifted brown nymph with a midge trailer and managed  five nice fish all browns today.

Happy New Year to y'all.  I have been fishing dam #2 in Newark at the gauging station now for the last 10 years or so on New Years Day.  Get my license on line and get out there to catch that first of the year trout.  This year it was a rainbow caught at the base of the dam.  Saw the ranger again this year and was asked to show my license.  They are now aware a trout stamp for out of staters is printed on the license so less hassles than in years past.  Was cold day and I only lasted about two hours .  In that time I didn't see another fisher.  Very nice New Year.
