Yup, the blog continues to be hacked.  I guess the hacker is a crappy fisher and is taking it out here.  Be that as it may,I continue to work to keep it current.   The White Clay Creek in PA is scheduled to be stocked by the state on Feb 20.  If  you want to help be at the Good Hope Road bridge at 2:30.  Help is always appreciated.  Todays snow will hamper my fishing for the next few days as the parking pull outs may be hard to find at the regulars spots. I plan to take a walk to the Big Elk tomorrow and see how that section of the creek is handling this dusting we had today.  I hope you will visit my new site www.vintagerod.com.  It is the site for the newly established business that I openned on Jan 21st this year.  Custom rods and rod rep ... I walked the creek today just looking for fish.  I am scheduled for a medical procedure in the next few days and I was trying to get the kinks out before I go under for some needed juice injections.  The ice really comes back fast aftr these cold night and the fish use those edges hiding just under the icy growth.  with the lack of pressure on the fish this winter fishing should be spectacular this spring.

Fished the White Clay Creek, a Delaware River in PA today.  Ice was almost all gone in the creek and on the rocks.  It is aufully difficult to find a safe edge to wade into as the snow hides it.  The fish were podded up at the rock point half way to dwon from geed hope rod.  I saw a few new footprints so I know that some other fishers are taking the opportunity to fish the creek this winter.  Good luck....I caught one nice rainbow and a bracwe of browns all on a zebra midge sz 20 below a caddis dry.

I am just back from a family vacation in St. Kitts where I was able to fish only one day due to the 20 knot daily winds during the week.  With my shrimp pattern I was able to catch a few grey snappers and a few unidentified fish!  Todays weather is already closing in so my plan to fish the White Clay Creek has been postponed.  I will check on stream conditions in the next few days and report what I find.

Regards,

I walked the WCC this afternoon just before dark to see how the cold temps changed the stream conditions.  The creek had anchor ice formed on the edges as well as the rocky formations. Some of the slower runs were ice covered.  I did see some fish in a few of the deeper holes.  I managed to last about an hour before my face was feeling the effects of the wind and cold.  This was the coldest day I have ever spent on the stream.

Fished below Good Hope Rd today trying to get another fishing day in before the snowy weather that is being reported.  The cold just penetrates your waders and I was only out there for a few hours before I got uncomfortably chilled through.  Air was 32 but the wind made it feel much colder.  Drifted brown nymph with a midge trailer and managed  five nice fish all browns today.

Happy New Year to y'all.  I have been fishing dam #2 in Newark at the gauging station now for the last 10 years or so on New Years Day.  Get my license on line and get out there to catch that first of the year trout.  This year it was a rainbow caught at the base of the dam.  Saw the ranger again this year and was asked to show my license.  They are now aware a trout stamp for out of staters is printed on the license so less hassles than in years past.  Was cold day and I only lasted about two hours .  In that time I didn't see another fisher.  Very nice New Year.

Spent the holiday with my inlaws in WV Terra Alta near Oakland MD south of Deep Creek Lake and fished the Yough for brown trout.  The weather was cold and snowy but the fish were cooperating and I was able to land a brace of browns on two consecutive days.

Beat the rain this morning and found a number of browns stacked up in a pool in my favorite stretch of the White Clay Creel, a Delaware River in PA today. These browns were hitting the wet flies I was drifting in a competative style.  Never left the pool all morning.  It was a blast...almost too easy.

Walked the creek in the snow and looked for fish that were set up outside the icy areas.  Was able to bring one to hand, a brown caught on a zebra midge with a crystal bead head.  There were a good number of trout showing themselves, just not willing to bite today. BTW, the anchor isce on the edges and the rocks are very sharp and will cut a fly line stripped against it.  Also very slippery.

I first want to apologize to those of you that have been following the blog regularly.  I have been able to resolve the issues created by a hacker since early November.  I will try to catch you up in this blog.

I spent a week before Thanksgiving on the Salmon River fishing in the snow and 10 degree weather with my friends Tom P, Barb B, and Leah G.  The steelheading was slow and the group did manage a few nice fish in the 8-9 lb class.  I managed 10 inches of fish in four days. Very tough going for me.

I have had 4 outings on the White Clay Creek since t-day and found the water to be low and clear.  I found a mix of rainbows and carp hanging around the  Hopkins Rd bridge in Delaware and was able to land a 16 inch trout from that bunch.  I also snag land ... Read More »

The air temp was 28 and the water temp 47 this morning on the White Clay Creek in the PA Preserve.  The fish were hiding today and I was only able to fool one brown out of the rocks.  The cold chased me off the stream in just a few hours today.

I fished the upper section above the island in the Delaware fly fishing section of the White Clay Creek, a Delaware River, today.  I was able to catch a white clay slam, a brook a brown a rainbow and a fall fish!!!!! The cooler overnight temp have slowed the fish down slightly and although I had a good day catching, the strikes were very subtle today.

The White Clay Creek, a Delaware River in DE and PA is located in the southernmost corner of Chester County in PA.With ample free parking at access points along the creek it is a idealic location for a fly fishing destination.  The fish have been very cooperative since the fall stocking.  I have been catching mostly browns with a few rainbows and some brookies that were stocked in the DE section, has made the fall a wonderful season.  Remember that some areas adjacent to the stream are open to hunting, so wear your hunters orange gear while fishing this fall.

Had an outstanding day fishing the White Clay Fly Fishers outing on the White Clay Creek, a Delaware River in the PA preserve today.  The browns were stacked up and they fell for a leaf hopper fished dry, and an edson tiger dark streamer .  This was the last outing of the year for the WCFF and we had a nice day with lunch and comeraderie.
