The White Clay Creek in DE & PA continues to fish really well in certain sections that are holding many fish.  Some recent reports indicated that  these fishers were not even seeing fish, yet this morning produced four fish over 20" taken on caddis emergers and green elk hair caddis size 16 for me.

Time to act steathy and fish the rocks.

I got chased off the White Clay Creek by a rain cell with lightning this morning.  A brace of fish fell for a caddis emerger (size 6) - olive and caddis green early morning.  Many of the DE stockers are showing up in the lower portion of the main stem in PA.

The White Clay Creek is suffering from some flooding from the steady rain we are experiencing.  Try fishing a streamer near the bank if you are going to give it a try under these conditions.  Two fishers reported some limited success with a yellow dyed hornberg.

The latest reports indicate that the shad are still biting in Deer Creek and venues near the mouth and a 40 min walk from the pumping station are hot spots.  Trout in the WCC are eating naturals with midges  and caddis dries producing the most fish. A late afternoon report indicated that maybe some sulfurs have emerged.  Waiting to see the results of some sampling to confirm that.

Big fish are still dominating the DE scene, but small flies seem to be the ticket for catching these monsters.  Black zebra midge with clear bead head or all tan midge are effective.  Dries are also working with tan and gray caddis adults (size 14/16) getting a good bit of attention.  Skitter the caddis just as it drags to extend your drift and watch out for some explosive strikes.

Anglers fishing White Clay Creek are continuing to have exceptional catchies of 20 plus inch fish in the flyfishing and bait sections of the creek.  Try the section below Wedgewood road, which is getting very little pressure and was well stocked with big fish.

The shad are in Deer Creek MD and depending on where you are located on the stream your luck was either great or poor.  A forty minute walk up from the pumping station yielded great results for one fisher - using a chartruse shad fly.  Another anger was successful fishing well below Stafford road bridge using a BYD special.  Anglers fishing the pumping station were catching single digit numbers (I was one of those!), so my advise to you is "take a walk"

Some of the DE stockers were reported being caught in PA.  Fish over 20" were not stocked in PA but reports indicate that some were caught in the mainstem, below the confluence in PA.

I had some trouble last week finding a space to fish over the weekend, but today I had the stretch of the White Clay Creek in DE & PA to myself.  I needed to clear my head of both personal and business issues. Three nice trout had a road trip from DE to PA today.  They were interested in either a black caddis nymph or a tan caddis dry.. Think dy flies in 16/18 and those resembling caddis seem to be turning fish jeads.

DE moved their last spring stocking date to Wed - today and more trophy fish were reported to be stocked throughout the FFO stretch.  Tan sj worms produced a number of nice fish in the 20's.  A few pix were sent in and I will try to get them up soon.

Reports indicate that the shad are in Deer Creek and some fishers are having banner days while others are only finding moderate success.  The trout in the WCC in DE are enormous with catches of 24" fish in the 5 pound class being caught every day.  The FFO section of the creek is fishing as good as I have seen for over 20 years with lots of fish being caught and release.  That will certainly extend our fishing into the summer months.  Streamers, woolly's and San Juan worms are great flies right now.  Some reports are that crane fly larvea are also working.
