The fish on the White Clay CreeK, a Delaware River in DE and PA were more than willing to bite a fly today.  I fished my favorite stretch below London Tract Rd bridge.  Fish moved to almost every fly I presented and although they refused a few , they moved to eat it, and that is rewarding.  The high stained water was back to clear and normal flow with water temp 68 at 7:45 am this morning.  A nice hatch of midges was on but the fish ate all nymphs presented on the bottom today.

I am always amazed at how fast the White Clay Creek recovers from heavy rain and the resulting run off.  Yesterday you couldn't see 6 inches into the water and today the flow was back to normal and pretty clear conditions returned.  The fish moved back into some feeding positions below the riffles which I was able to take advantage of.  The best fly today was a red and tan san juan worm and a hares ear nymph.  The groundwater run off has raised the water temp to 68 degrees.

The White Clay Creek , a delaware rive in pa saw a lot of run off from the overnight rain.  A cross between dark tea and chocolate milk.  I fished the edges with an large streamer with little results.  Only one rainbow was landed and the rest of the trip today saw me picking up trash on the walk out.  I hope the conditions improve tomorrow, as the forecast is for more thundershowers tonight.

Thanks to all of you who have been providing feedback on success in the White Clay Creek and on your fishing outings abroad.  It's good to hear that the golden retriever is such a super fishing fly around the country.  The pattern is on the site under the tab fly tying and fly tying kits, so you can tie your own or contact me to tie a dozen for you. Keep those fishing reports coming!

Got chased off the White Clay Creek in PA this afternoon by the thunderstorm.  Before it hit I was able to catch a brace of browns and release a number of sunfish today in the section of the creek below Good Hope Road.  The humidity was high and the low pressure had a few fish turned on, Water temp was 65 degrees today and is expected to be affected both positively and negatively by the heat wave predicted and run off from the showers.  More tomorrow as I get back into my morning fihsing routine.

Spent a week fishing the Salmon River in Pulaski NY with the White Clay Fly Fishers.  This annual event, this year moved to June was a tremendous success.  All the Fishers were catching small mouth bass, fall fish, skamania steelhead and atlantic salmon smolt.  The best bass were in the 3 lb range and the steelhead were about 6 lbs.  The best feature was the lack of fishing pressure on the river.  You may know the Salmon River is known for its fall salmon run and winter steelhead catch.  But in the summer there is almost no pressure on the river for days.  I fished the upper fly stretch for 5 hours without seeing another angler.  That's a wow for me.  Hope you all haven't missed my not blogging about the White Clay Creek, a Delaware River in DE and PA to much over the last 8 weeks.  I took the opportunity to accept wonderful fishing venue invitations this year.  I w ... The White Clay Creek is just recovering from the weekend and Monday deluge that had the flow and turbidity off the charts.  The trout were cooperating and onto a PT sz 16 and black midge sz 22 dropper combo this morning. Mostly browns with one rainbow.  Some trash has accumulated on the stream banks and I collected some on my walk out.  It'll take a few more trips to get rid of the rest.  The high fast water has scoured a few of the silty areas and depositied it down stream somewhere.   Water temp was 68 degrees this morning. I hope to get out again before the week is out.

Spent the last few days fishing the NC beach near Kitty Hawk.  Found speckled trout in the grass beds of the bay and bottom fish plus a red fish in the surf.  Used my mole crab on steroids imitation to catch that 24" 8 lb redfish in the surf.  All the sea mullet(bay whiting/kingfish) fell for it too.  I have been delevloping that pattern for the last 35 years as a pompano fly, but it just works when jigged through the surf. The speckled trout took a gold and olive clouser fished along the grass edges.  A fun week for sure.
